Taiwan's stock market extended its rebound from a recent correction, with the benchmark index closing up 503 points on August 13 at 46,021 and rising further to 46,081 by midday on August 14. The move marked a fourth straight trading-day gain and lifted the week's cumulative advance to 1,793 points, signaling a clear break from the market's earlier consolidation pattern. Trading activity also accelerated sharply. Turnover on August 13 climbed to NT$1.05 trillion, or about $32.8 billion, compared with the sub-NT$900 billion levels seen previously, while foreign investors bought a net NT$75.6 billion, or about $2.4 billion, in Taiwan stocks. Analysts said the return of overseas capital not only helped drive the broader index higher but also revived bullish sentiment in AI-related large-cap and high-priced shares. Within that broader rebound, memory stocks remained a focal point on August 14. Powerchip Semiconductor rose as much as 9.21% intraday and Winbond Electronics gained as much as 7.90%, with heavy turnover in both names underscoring concentrated capital rotation in the segment. Foreign investors had already stepped up purchases in memory stocks on August 13, with Powerchip, Nanya Technology and Winbond all ranking among the top ten net buys. Analysts said the memory upcycle and index-related inflows still offer medium- to long-term support, though sharp recent gains and faster sector rotation are increasing near-term volatility.
