India’s BSE Sensex closed marginally lower at 78,009.25 on Friday, reversing the previous session’s gains and ending at its lowest level since July 30 as persistent Middle East tensions, elevated crude oil prices and renewed foreign outflows weighed on sentiment. Bharti Airtel led the gainers with a 2.5% rise, followed by Adani Ports up 1.8%, while ICICI Bank, Titan, M&M and HDFC Bank also posted modest advances. On the downside, Asian Paints fell 1.7%, IndiGo lost 1.4%, NTPC dropped 1.2%, Power Grid declined 1.1% and Tech Mahindra fell 0.9%. Reliance Industries slipped 0.6%, partly pressured by MSCI’s decision to reduce its weight in the flagship index under its periodic review. The benchmark posted a weekly decline of about 0.6%.
