Nvidia said Spectrum-X Ethernet Photonics has entered full mass production as the world's first volume-produced 200G/lane co-packaged optics (CPO, which places optical engines next to switch chips) Ethernet switch system. The company said the platform cuts laser count by 4x, lowers power consumption by 5x and improves mean time between failures by 10x, while doubling per-switch-chip bandwidth from the Blackwell-generation Spectrum-4's 51.2 Tb/s to 102.4 Tb/s, reducing optical loss from about 22 dB to about 4 dB and improving signal integrity by 64x. Foxconn, Lumentum, SPIL, TFC Optical Communication and TSMC make up the production chain, while CoreWeave, Lambda and Oracle are the first cloud computing service provider adopters, with production beginning from May to July 2026 and the product now in full mass production. Analysts say the ramp is a key milestone for silicon photonics and signals an "optical in, copper out" shift as Scale-up networks (high-bandwidth links inside AI clusters) become increasingly important to AI performance.
