Nintendo shares closed 7% higher in Japan on Friday after the company said Pokémon Pokopia had sold more than 5 million units on Switch 2 just over four months after its March 5 launch. The title is now the console's second-best-selling game, behind Mario Kart World and ahead of Donkey Kong Bananza, an unexpected result for a Pokémon spin-off with Animal Crossing-style gameplay. The update mattered to investors because successful software can lift hardware shipments at a time when rising memory costs have forced Nintendo to raise Switch 2 prices; June-quarter console sales fell 34.4% year-on-year to 3.82 million units, and the company forecast 16.5 million sales for its fiscal year ended Mar. 31, 2027, below the prior year. Nintendo also unveiled expansion packs and updates for the game, while investors are looking ahead to a Switch 2 release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and two new Pokémon titles slated for next year.
