The U.S. Justice Department has set out the agenda for its newly formed National Fraud Enforcement Division, saying in a Thursday memo from Assistant Attorney General Colin McDonald that the unit will steer criminal fraud enforcement across public trust, healthcare, internal revenue, global trade and commerce, and corporate misconduct. The memo said the division will examine healthcare marketing of unsafe products and services that deceive consumers and will lead criminal enforcement strategy on trade and customs violations and forced labor in supply chains. Separately, a Justice Department presentation touting "record fraud enforcement actions" was undercut when one example cited by the U.S. attorney for northern Mississippi involved a former federal employee caught in 2022 for looting a pandemic-era small-business loan program who had already completed his prison sentence.
