Upbit and Bithumb recorded an outflow of more than 2.8 trillion won ($2.1 billion) in fiat deposits over six months, highlighting weaker user cash balances at South Korea’s largest crypto trading venues. KBS reported that user won deposits held at the two exchanges fell to 5.0548 trillion won ($3.8 billion) at the end of June from 7.8679 trillion won ($5.9 billion) a year earlier. Dunamu’s deposits, tied to Upbit, dropped 36.0% to 3.7 trillion won ($2.8 billion) from 5.8 trillion won ($4.4 billion), while Bithumb’s deposits declined 35.2% to 1.3 trillion won ($977 million) from the 2 trillion won range. Fiat deposits are a closely watched gauge of trading capacity because they reflect cash that users can deploy into crypto purchases.
