Monami (005360.KS) reported a wider operating loss for the first half as weakness in newer business lines offset an improvement in its main stationery operations. Consolidated revenue came to 61.7 billion won ($44.5 million), down 5.6% from a year earlier, while the operating loss widened to 4 billion won from 2.4 billion won in the same period last year, a regulatory filing on the 14th showed. The company's founding stationery business returned to profit with 59.3 billion won in revenue and 700 million won in operating profit. Its computer supplies unit, which sells products including printer consumables, also swung into the black with 14.8 billion won in revenue and 200 million won in operating profit. That improvement was more than offset by continued weakness in the other business division, including Monami's new cosmetics venture, where revenue was 6 billion won and the operating loss widened to 4 billion won, about 1.5 billion won deeper than a year earlier.
