Canada's wholesale sales excluding petroleum and hydrocarbon products rose 2.8% month on month in June 2026, slightly above the preliminary 2.7% estimate and marking the strongest increase since May 2023. The advance was led by machinery, equipment and supplies, where sales climbed 4.8% to C$20.1 billion, supported by a 25.9% rise in farm, lawn, and gardening machinery and equipment to C$3.1 billion, while motor vehicles and parts also contributed significantly. Food, beverage, and tobacco sales increased 2.8% to C$16.4 billion, and Ontario and Quebec posted the largest gains in dollar terms. The figures point to firmer momentum in wholesale trade heading into the third quarter and suggest the goods-producing and distribution sectors supported second-quarter growth, though economists caution the series can be volatile and that high interest rates, subdued global demand, geopolitical tensions and possible labor disruptions still cloud the outlook.
