Reliance Industries and Rolls-Royce said they intend to collaborate on developing a sovereign combat aircraft engine for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft, the country’s homegrown fifth-generation stealth fighter project. The companies said they will explore establishing an Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex in India covering the full engine lifecycle, including design, development, manufacturing, testing, production and long-term maintenance and support. Reliance Executive Director Anant Ambani said the effort is aimed at building a self-reliant and eventually globally competitive aero-engine ecosystem in India, while Rolls-Royce CEO Tufan Erginbilgic called it a milestone for the country’s aerospace base. The announcement aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Atmanirbhar Bharat push to reduce dependence on imported defence technology, though the companies said the move is currently an expression of strategic intent rather than a formal joint venture or commercial contract. No financial details, ownership structure or timeline were disclosed.
