President Donald Trump and Elon Musk have resumed regular contact and now speak about once a month after aides and allies tried to repair the fallout from their public split last year, though Trump has privately acknowledged the relationship will never be the same, a new report said. The break followed Musk's role leading the Department of Government Efficiency, a cost-cutting effort in the Trump administration, after which he attacked Republicans, Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill" and the administration's sweeping tariffs. Musk also called for Trump's impeachment, threatened to launch his own political party and accused Trump of wanting to shield the administration's records on Jeffrey Epstein before later deleting that post and saying he regretted some of his criticism. Musk told The Economist last month he "got a little too involved in politics, got carried away frankly," and the two were later seen together at Charlie Kirk's funeral in September last year.
