Bitcoin supply that can be viewed as "lost" has climbed to a record 3.56 million BTC, or about 17.7% of circulating supply, as more coins remain untouched for more than a decade. At roughly $63,700 per BTC, that stock is worth about $226.8 billion, underscoring how much Bitcoin may be effectively absent from active trading. With Bitcoin's issued supply topping 20.07 million BTC by August 2026, or about 95.6% of the 21 million cap, the buildup in long-dormant supply points to a further reduction in the amount effectively available for the market. CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost said on Aug. 16 that more than 14,000 BTC entered that dormant supply category over the past 30 days, while noting that some long-inactive coins can occasionally move again, as seen when 80,000 BTC from 2011-dormant address clusters moved in July 2025.
