A 4,444 Niu Lai memecoin burn that appeared to come from Binance founder Changpeng Zhao's publicly disclosed donation address was actually executed by the token's developer, not by Zhao himself, on-chain data shows. Arkham data showed three consecutive burns around 4:15 PM today from the address, sending 4,444 Niu Lai, 4,444 MarsCoins and 4,444 Binance Life tokens to a burn address (an unrecoverable token wallet). The investigation found that the Niu Lai transaction tied to a contract address beginning 0xD043B6 was carried out by address 0xcf86..383, identified as the token's developer. The on-chain record indicates the developer set privileged authority in the smart contract (self-executing blockchain code) to mint 1 billion tokens to their own address, transferred about 800 million to Zhao's address, and then used the transferFrom function to move 4,444 tokens from that address to the burn address without any active CZ transaction. The report said Zhao's address did not authorize the token or its developer, meaning a transaction record that appears as "From: Changpeng Zhao" on tracking platforms does not show support, participation or a knowing burn by Zhao. Similar tactics have reportedly surfaced before, including claims that CAAB sent about 80% of its total supply to Zhao's donation address in 2025 and marketed that as "CZ holding the token," and that SHORT sent 99.9% of its supply to his address before its team allegedly sold into a brief price rise after Zhao cleaned and burned the tokens.
