Australian equities slipped 28 points, or 0.3%, to 9,042 in early Wednesday trade, extending losses to a sixth straight session and marking a two-week low. Sentiment weakened after Wall Street fell overnight, with sluggish U.S. stock futures, a global bond rout and firmer oil prices weighing on risk appetite. Investors also turned cautious ahead of Australia's second-quarter wage price index due later Wednesday and July labor data due Thursday. Consumer durables, financials and logistics stocks led declines on the ASX 200, while gains in healthcare, energy minerals and technology helped limit losses. The four big banks fell between 0.6% and 2.3% as sharp declines in home-loan applications following May's tax changes added pressure. Among notable movers, Goodman Group dropped 4.4%, Northern Star Resources fell 1.5% and Evolution Mining lost 1.1%, while CSL rose 4.0%, Santos gained 2.3% and Woodside Energy added 0.9%. Traders were also watching for remarks later in the day from Reserve Bank Deputy Governor Andrew Hauser.
