Monzo chair Gary Hoffman is set to leave the UK digital bank in early September 2026, about a year before his term was due to end, after tensions with major shareholders escalated over the handling of CEO succession. Investor unrest that began with a December 2025 revolt and intensified after TS Anil said in February 2026 that he intended to step down contributed to pressure for Hoffman's removal, while Hoffman also cited health and family considerations following prostate cancer treatment. Karen Peacock has been appointed interim chair, and Diana Layfield has taken the CEO role as Monzo rebuilds its top leadership. Hoffman's tenure spanned a period of rapid growth, with Monzo's customer base rising from about 1.6 million in February 2019 to more than 16 million by 2026, alongside the bank securing a full European banking license.
