Ukrainian drone strikes have shifted from military and energy infrastructure to Wildberries, Russia’s largest e-commerce platform, hitting about 20 warehouse facilities across the country over the past month and inflicting losses estimated as high as $6 billion. The attacks, which began July 18 in Elektrostal and the Tambov region and later reached hubs including Podolsk and Yekaterinburg, have knocked seven of Wildberries’ 10 biggest logistics centers out of operation, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said. The campaign exposes how vulnerable large civilian logistics hubs can be in a long-range drone war and broadens the conflict’s economic and social impact inside Russia. Wildberries, founded by Tatyana Kim in 2004, handles about half of all online orders in Russia and serves an estimated 500,000 to 800,000 sellers through a network built around roughly two dozen giant warehouses and about 100,000 pickup and distribution points. With some estimates indicating up to 20% of its total warehouse space has been destroyed, the disruption is rippling through small businesses, consumers and banks. Wildberries’ debts were estimated at about $15 billion at the end of 2025, and Ukrainian officials say the strikes are meant not only to disrupt alleged military-related supplies but also to create wider economic stress, including for lenders such as VTB and Sberbank. The company said it is rearranging supply chains and creating partner hubs, while Kim pledged support measures for sellers including discounted storage, free transfers of goods, discounted loans and other aid. Russia’s Central Bank has asked lenders to restructure loans to affected small and medium businesses. Analysts and Russian commentators say the attacks are bringing the war closer to ordinary citizens, though some also warn they could intensify anti-Ukrainian and anti-Western sentiment.
