Uber is expanding its partner-led autonomous strategy on two fronts, keeping its strategic investment in Zipline at the center of a plan to scale Uber Eats drone deliveries from Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston to dozens of U.S. cities while targeting 1 million deliveries a day by the end of 2029. The move adds to a network that already spans human couriers and sidewalk robots, even as the economics of drone delivery remain under scrutiny because beyond-visual-line-of-sight approvals and order density are critical to lowering per-order costs. Uber has also exited its position in Serve Robotics over differing strategic views. Separately, the company, Tokyo-based Hinomaru Kotsu and Wayve plan a late-2026 Tokyo robotaxi pilot using Nissan LEAF vehicles, with Hinomaru managing the physical fleet and safety drivers. Uber shares were up 0.79% at $75.58 on Tuesday afternoon.
