General Atlantic has chosen JPMorgan Chase as lead underwriter for a renewed initial public offering, with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley joining the syndicate as the New York-based firm considers a listing later in 2026. The growth equity investor confidentially filed for a U.S. IPO in December 2023 when it managed about $77 billion, but shelved the plan as market conditions weakened; it now oversees roughly $130 billion and brought on James Gorman as an adviser in March 2025 as preparations resumed. Founded in 1980, General Atlantic has deployed $121 billion since inception and counts Facebook, Airbnb, Anthropic, PhonePe and Banamex among notable investments. Investors are likely to focus on its exposure to technology, financial services and healthcare, and on whether a public listing could give it the lower funding costs, acquisition currency and visibility enjoyed by listed peers such as Apollo, KKR and Ares.
