Solana’s Agave 4.2 rollout has begun activating the network’s first slot-time reduction, lowering the target from 400 milliseconds to 350 milliseconds at Epoch 1020 on Aug. 21, 2026, as part of a staged path toward 200 milliseconds. The upgrade also includes a phased 90% reduction in on-chain storage rent and a 4,096-byte maximum size for v1 transactions, while some SDK constants still show 400 milliseconds during the transition. An Aug. 13 Solana Foundation changelog added engineering detail around that roadmap, listing feature gates aimed at 250-millisecond slots on testnet and 300-millisecond slots on both testnet and devnet, but stressing that the roundup spans released software, proposals and work in progress rather than confirming activation on every network. The entry also listed Agave v4.3 scheduling and v4.2.0, Firedancer testnet v26.08.0 and mainnet 1.1.4, a Frankendancer mainnet release, and development work on program caching, vote verification, transaction processing, snapshots and developer tooling. One proposal would let transactions reference more accounts, which the Foundation linked to larger blockspace and transaction-size limits that could support more complex applications. The same update said a routing issue at a Frankfurt location used by several validators on Aug. 12 did not disrupt the network because the affected stake remained below the consensus threshold.
