Jane Street has disclosed a nearly $1 billion Bitcoin position through exchange-traded funds rather than direct holdings of the digital asset, with a Securities and Exchange Commission filing showing $990 million invested across products from BlackRock, Fidelity and Grayscale. At today’s prices, that exposure is roughly equivalent to 15,394 BTC. The largest slice of the position, $828 million, sits in BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, the biggest spot Bitcoin ETF, a fund that began trading in early 2024 and now holds $47.3 billion in assets under management. The filing underscores how large institutions are using regulated stock-exchange vehicles to gain Bitcoin exposure, a route also taken by pension funds, U.S. states and other traditional investors. The disclosure comes as Jane Street reported its first losing month in about a decade, posting roughly $15 billion in July losses tied mainly to its stake in AI-focused hedge fund Situational Awareness and unsuccessful bets in Asian equity markets. Even so, Bloomberg reported that Jane Street has generated more than $40 billion in net trading revenue year-to-date, already above its record $39.6 billion for all of 2025. The filing also follows recent Bitcoin position disclosures by Edelman Financial, Tudor Investment Corporation and Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth funds.
