The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority board of directors approved a $15.5 billion budget for President Donald Trump’s proposed renovation of Washington Dulles International Airport, replacing the $19.9 billion proposal previously scheduled for a vote. The budget includes $3.75 billion for underground tunnels and replacement people movers that carry passengers across the tarmac. The broader redevelopment plan includes a $6.2 billion main-terminal reconstruction, new or renovated space spanning 5 million square feet and concourse work extending into at least 2039. About $4.4 billion had already been approved, with much of the remaining financing expected through municipal bonds. The airport handled a record 29 million passengers in 2025, up 6.4%, and is set to open a 435,000-square-foot, 14-gate concourse for United customers this fall.
