BitBox said its Dixence update, firmware version 9.26.5, fixes two severe vulnerabilities and a third lower-risk issue in its hardware wallets, with no evidence any were exploited or that user funds were stolen. The company said the wallet seed was never at risk and urged users to update through the official BitBoxApp, preferably via its in-app prompt, because older firmware remains exposed until patched. One severe flaw was a bootloader issue on the BitBox02 that, if paired with a phishing attack and a user unlocking a tampered device, could have allowed malicious firmware to be installed on a genuine wallet; BitBox02 Nova was not affected because it uses a different bootloader version. A second severe flaw involved memory corruption on unconfigured Multi editions before setup, where a malicious host could potentially achieve arbitrary code execution and install malicious firmware; Bitcoin-only editions were not affected. BitBox said users do not need to migrate funds, unlike the recent Coldcard incident, where Coinkite warned that a long-running bug in Mk3 devices weakened seed generation and Galaxy Research has since put confirmed thefts at $115 million in bitcoin.
