KG Mobility has formally launched the KGM brand in Myanmar, using electric models including the Torres EVX SUV and Musso EV pickup to enter a market it sees as being in an early growth phase. The South Korean automaker held a launch event in Yangon on Aug. 14 local time with local partner Super Seven Stars Group, attended by about 500 people including Chairman Kwak Jae-sun, President Kwak Jung-hyun, SSS Group Chairman San Linn and SSS Group Automotive Head Salman Linn. KGM said SSS Group will pursue local production and sales of the Torres EVX and Musso EV, while KGM plans to supply a total of 1,000 vehicles to Myanmar this year through the partnership. The company is also using Myanmar as a starting point for broader overseas knock-down assembly expansion into markets including Saudi Arabia and Vietnam. As of July, KGM had exported a cumulative 40,894 units, exceeding the pace of last year, when it posted its highest annual export volume in 11 years. Myanmar's limited road infrastructure and strong demand for family transport and business-use vehicles have made SUVs and pickups a preferred segment, while SSS Group's sales network and EV charging operations are expected to support market entry as charging infrastructure remains at an early stage.
