United Overseas Bank has appointed Tan Choon Hin as head of ASEAN and Greater China, effective Sept. 1, as it pushes to deepen regional connectivity and capture rising cross-border business between the two regions. Tan, currently UOB’s deputy chief risk officer, will run the bank’s regional business, including fully owned subsidiaries in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and mainland China, along with branches in Hong Kong and Taiwan. He will also oversee UOB’s foreign direct investment (FDI, long-term overseas business investment) advisory unit, which links companies with ecosystem partners and industry networks across ASEAN and Greater China. In the past six months, that unit has supported more than 300 cross-border expansion plans with projected investments of S$5.6 billion, or $4.38 billion. Tan will report to UOB’s CEO Wee Ee Cheong.
