Google has told suppliers it wants all Pixel smartphones, watches and wireless earbuds manufactured outside China, with Vietnam and India becoming the main production bases as the company works to reduce geopolitical and supply-chain risk. The latest report described the shift as beginning next year and completing a broader exit from China by 2027, a move that could make Google the second major smartphone brand after Samsung Electronics to relocate production out of China and one that appears easier to execute than Apple Inc.'s because Pixel has only a limited presence in the Chinese market. Google is still targeting 8% to 10% growth in Pixel smartphone shipments this year from roughly 12 million units last year despite rising memory chip costs, and is bundling cloud and handset chip orders in talks with Micron Technology, Samsung and SK Hynix to improve leverage. Counterpoint Research's Gerrit Schneemann said U.S. promotions, a premiumization trend and the pricing of the Pixel 9a and 10a are helping demand, while Google's more cautious approach to price increases has kept its midrange lineup competitive as rivals face higher component costs.
