Decred has released mandatory software version v2.1.6, requiring nodes, wallets and network infrastructure operators to upgrade to avoid operating on a different network fork. The patch fixes a critical consensus security vulnerability, blocks a potential periodic deanonymization attack targeting the project’s CoinShuffle++ transaction-mixing system, and addresses several denial-of-service and Simplified Payment Verification risks. The release updates both dcrd, Decred’s full-node software, and dcrwallet, while Decrediton packages are available for Linux, macOS and Windows. The project initially planned the release for Aug. 18, 2026, but announced the live patch on Aug. 19, 2026.
