Hyundai Engineering & Construction said it has secured priority engineering, procurement, and construction rights for as many as eight additional Natrium reactors that TerraPower plans to pursue, extending the South Korean company's role in the U.S. nuclear developer's next-generation reactor pipeline. The agreement also broadens cooperation on the current Natrium project and new business opportunities, as utilities and technology groups seek firm low-carbon power supplies for fast-growing AI data centers. TerraPower, which uses sodium-cooled fast reactor technology (reactors cooled by liquid sodium), is building the 345 MW Kemmerer Unit 1 in Wyoming after receiving construction approval from the NRC (U.S. nuclear regulator). Natrium is designed to pair the reactor with energy storage so output can be adjusted to electricity demand. Hyundai E&C said the partnership will also cover discussions on follow-on units and joint global marketing, while a separate May MOU linked Hyundai E&C and HD Hyundai to TerraPower's broader next-generation nuclear push.
