Mitsubishi UFJ has increased its exposure to Strategy, the world's largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, with the latest disclosure showing a 360,613-share position worth roughly $35 million after adding 53,430 shares. The stake, up 17.4% from the previously reported 307,183 shares, is held through Mitsubishi UFJ Asset Management, a wholly owned MUFG subsidiary, rather than directly on Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group's own balance sheet. Historical 13F filings show the asset manager held MicroStrategy shares as far back as 2011, reported about 3,700 shares in March 2013, disappeared from filings for several years, then reappeared in 2023 with 14 shares before rising to about 103,000 shares by late 2024 and 307,183 shares as of March 31. The filing adds to evidence that Japanese financial institutions are using Strategy as an indirect route to Bitcoin exposure, with Nomura Holdings and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Holdings also cited as notable holders, while Tokyo-listed Metaplanet has separately adopted Bitcoin as its principal treasury reserve asset.
