Southern California Gas Co. said on Aug. 18, 2026 that schools, local governments and other public-sector facilities received more than $10 million in no-cost energy efficiency upgrades through its Public Direct Install Program (PDIP) in 2025, with another $32 million in utility bill savings expected over the equipment lifetime. The program supports eligible participants with measures such as tankless water heaters, hot water pipe insulation and tank insulation. SoCalGas said the effort installed more than 2,000 measures across 845 projects in 2025, reducing lifetime energy use by about 16.3 million net therms, which it said is equivalent to serving roughly 11,500 residential homes for one year. Colton Joint Unified School District said it completed more than 150 measures over three years, including 84 high-efficiency tankless water heaters, cutting natural gas use by about 20% and saving more than $800,000 through incentives. The utility said PDIP is part of more than 70 energy efficiency programs it administers for customers.
