Disney, ABC and the company's television stations sued the Federal Communications Commission in Washington on Tuesday, seeking emergency relief to block an accelerated renewal process for eight ABC-owned stations whose broadcast licenses are otherwise due between 2028 and 2031. The complaint says the FCC's April order forced the stations to submit renewal applications years early and within 30 days, a timetable Disney says normally takes months, while tying the review to scrutiny of ABC's "The View," Jimmy Kimmel and Disney's diversity, equity and inclusion policies. Disney argues the licensing push is retaliation for protected editorial speech, citing President Donald Trump's calls to terminate broadcasters' licenses and FCC Chairman Brendan Carr's pressure over ABC programming, and asks the court to immediately bar the agency from acting on or threatening action over the filings.
