The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index fell about 1.4% to 2,776 points on Wednesday, reaching its lowest level since July 31 and declining for a second session. Larger vessel segments drove the retreat: the capesize index dropped 1% to 4,376 points, also its weakest level since July 31, while the panamax index declined 2.2% to 2,107 points, its lowest since that date. The supramax index rose 0.2% to 1,634 points, a fresh high since July 28. The index tracks shipping rates for dry bulk commodities including iron ore, coal and grain.
