Viet Nam posted Asia Pacific's largest overall score improvement since 2021 in the 2026 Chandler Good Government Index (CGGI), climbing from 58th to 49th globally as scores rose in six of seven pillars. A jump in Financial Stewardship, from 39th to 12th, helped drive the gain, with improvements in Country Budget Surplus, Government Debt and Country Risk Premium, while Spending Efficiency remained a perfect score. Leadership & Foresight showed the biggest advance, rising from 61st to 25th, and Helping People Rise also improved as Personal Safety strengthened, though Environmental Performance fell from 74th to 121st. Strong Institutions, Attractive Marketplace and Robust Laws & Policies also improved, while Global Influence & Reputation was the only pillar to decline, slipping from 72nd to 83rd. The index said Asia Pacific logged the world's sharpest regional governance improvement over five years, with 79% of governments posting higher scores year on year in 2026, and Singapore remained the top-ranked country globally for a fourth straight year.
