Fortinet has acquired privately held Virtue AI, a San Francisco-based security startup founded in 2024, to expand its enterprise AI security capabilities into agentic AI. Financial terms were not disclosed. Virtue AI provides runtime protection, automated validation, red-teaming, governance and real-time defense for autonomous AI systems, while Fortinet plans to complement its FortiAIGate offering with those tools and threat intelligence from FortiGuard Labs. The technology is designed to identify vulnerabilities across more than 50 virtual environments and 14 high-risk domains, assess hundreds of attack types and more than 1,000 risk items, and protect text, images and video from threats including prompt injection, data leakage, jailbreak attempts and vulnerable-code exposure. Gartner forecasts the AI ecosystem and AI-agent security market will grow from $2.8 billion in 2026 to $16.4 billion by 2030.
