Representative Harriet Hageman and former state Representative James Byrd are projected to meet in Wyoming's November Senate election to succeed retiring Republican Senator Cynthia Lummis, with nonpartisan forecaster Cook Political Report rating the race solidly Republican. Hageman, who won the Republican primary and rose to national prominence after defeating Representative Liz Cheney in 2022, launched her Senate bid in December shortly after Lummis announced her retirement. President Trump quickly endorsed her, calling her a "TOTAL WINNER," and she has also secured backing from Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso, Senate Majority Leader John Thune and several conservative and rural advocacy groups. Byrd, a Democrat who served in the state legislature from 2009 to 2019 and was his party's 2018 nominee for Wyoming secretary of state, is campaigning on healthcare access, public land preservation and support for the state's energy industry.
