India’s BSE Sensex fell about 0.4% to 76,909.7 on Wednesday, extending losses to a fourth straight session and reaching its lowest level since July 28. The latest figure revises the 77,018 level previously recorded for the index. Investor sentiment remained cautious as Brent crude hovered around $92 a barrel, raising concerns about India’s import bill and inflation, while higher US Treasury yields pressured emerging-market assets. Traders also awaited the release of FOMC minutes later in the day. Continued foreign outflows remained another drag, despite foreign investors turning net buyers on Tuesday after selling a record $25 billion of Indian equities this year. Power Grid Corporation fell 2%, Bajaj Finance and Larsen & Toubro each declined 1.3%, ITC lost 1.2% and Hindustan Unilever dropped 1%. HCL Technologies gained 1.7%, while Eternal rose 1.3% and Kotak Mahindra Bank and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries each advanced 1.2%. Other shares previously identified as notable movers included Netweb, Himadri, Cupid, Paras Defence and L&T Finance on the downside, and RailTel, Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals, Chennai Petroleum, Milky Mist and Zaggle on the upside. RailTel had gained after securing a 1.67 billion rupees order from the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation.
