AWS makes AgentCore Payments generally available for autonomous AI-agent transactions

AWS has made AgentCore Payments generally available, giving AI agents on its infrastructure the ability to pay autonomously for APIs, MCP-based tools, premium web content, data services and other agents' services using USDC on Coinbase's Base network. Built with Coinbase and Stripe wallet infrastructure, the system uses Coinbase's x402 protocol, an HTTP-native payment layer that lets software negotiate and settle charges programmatically, with transactions completing in hundreds of milliseconds. AWS said developers can cap spending at the session level, define payment windows, manage payment lifecycles and monitor transactions through AWS CloudWatch, while Coinbase's x402 Bazaar exposes more than 10,000 payable endpoints. Previewed on May 7, 2026 and generally available from Aug. 18, the service extends AWS's earlier support for credit-card funding, MPP, dynamic billing and agent-payment controls, and highlights the growing role of stablecoin rails in machine-to-machine commerce.
