Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon has sharply criticized the government's proposal to develop limited rental housing on Yongsan Park, saying it should not use young people's desperation as cover for policy shortcomings. In a Facebook post the day after an Aug. 20 meeting with Land, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Kim Yoon-deok, Oh said the park's core site remains designated parkland under the special act and cannot be repurposed. He stressed that restoring a housing ladder through immediate supply measures must take priority over uncertain redevelopment plans with no firm timeline. Oh proposed raising the home-price ceiling and loan limit for Didimdol mortgages, expanding the Youth Future Bogeumjari loan to apartments and easing rules for Mirinae House long-term jeonse rentals. He also called on the Korea Housing & Urban Guarantee Corporation to speed up guarantees for real estate investment trusts. The comments follow persistent differences over Yongsan Park housing volumes, greenbelt rules and nearby state-owned sites.
