Coinbase has begun rolling out a new matching engine for Deribit by Coinbase that is designed to process more than 100,000 orders per second with sub-millisecond matching latency, bringing Deribit onto the same core execution infrastructure as Coinbase International Exchange. Selected instruments will include a built-in speed bump that briefly delays aggressive orders; Coinbase said the feature may help liquidity providers respond in fast markets and could support tighter spreads and deeper resting size over time, although those outcomes were not presented as measured results or guaranteed. Coinbase expects all perpetual futures to run on the engine later this year, while derivatives access remains subject to regional restrictions, regulatory requirements and eligibility checks. The rollout supports Coinbase's broader derivatives expansion through Deribit, including planned August 31 perpetual contracts tied to U.S. stocks, ETFs, commodities and pre-IPO assets settled in USDC.
