New Zealand stocks rose 53 points, or 0.4%, to 13,973 on Friday, reversing morning losses, erasing the previous session’s decline and reaching their highest level since Aug. 5. Gains in technology, consumer staples, real estate and communication services outweighed losses in energy, materials and industrials. Positive earnings reports during the peak corporate reporting season supported sentiment, although a downbeat Wall Street session and rising Treasury yields capped the advance. New Zealand’s trade deficit widened in July as exports increased less than imports. Traders are awaiting U.S. July PMIs and New Zealand’s second-quarter retail-sales data next week. The index gained 0.9% for the week, its third consecutive weekly increase. Scales Corp., Colonial Motor, Fisher & Paykel, A2 Milk, Chorus and Westpac Banking Corp. were among the gainers.
