Shanghai Electric Company, Shanghai International Port Group and France's CMA CGM Group completed an 8,000 metric ton bio-methanol bunkering operation at Shanghai Yangshan Port on August 17, marking the largest single bio-methanol refueling operation on record. The fuel was primarily supplied by Shanghai Electric's Taonan Green Methanol Project in Jilin Province, which demonstrated stable production and large-scale delivery capabilities. The ceremony was held under the theme "Green-powered planet, a step to the future." The operation was supported by a fully connected inter-provincial supply chain of green fuels. On June 30, Shanghai, Jilin and Liaoning officially launched a jointly built transportation corridor for green fuels, following a north-to-south route with production in Taonan, transshipment and storage in Dalian Port, and final bunkering in Shanghai. The Taonan project utilizes Jilin's wind and solar resources along with biomass feedstock and employs independently developed complete process systems. It is the world's first large-scale bio-methanol production facility integrating green electricity with biomass through biomass gasification. Shanghai Electric will continue to focus on the full industrial chain for diversified green fuels and is accelerating the Taonan Phase II project to produce green methanol and sustainable aviation fuel.
