Naver's labor union has formally asked management to begin unified bargaining covering the parent company and its affiliates. About 300 members rallied at Naver 1784 in Seongnam on Aug. 20 and submitted a letter to headquarters demanding a collective bargaining agreement across 16 affiliates. The union says decentralized negotiations have produced 150 bargaining sessions over the past year, consuming about 1,000 hours while affiliate managers waited for headquarters to reach agreements. Its demands include improved group-wide management, better and safer working conditions, expanded employee welfare and unified labor-management relations. The union argues that the Yellow Envelope Law, an amendment to Articles 2 and 3 of the Trade Union Act, supports treating Naver as an employer because it substantially and concretely controls affiliate working conditions. It has also urged Naver to address stalled wage talks at Naver Z, where management proposed a salary freeze and workers secured the right to strike through Labor Relations Commission mediation and a union vote.
