Baidu's Apollo Go autonomous vehicles are now available through Uber in Dubai, the first market to launch the companies' multiyear partnership. Riders booking UberX or Uber Comfort may be matched with a fully driverless vehicle, while selecting the "Autonomous" option can increase the chance of receiving one. The service initially covers select areas of Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah and is operated by New Horizon Luxury Transport. The rollout uses Apollo Go's sixth-generation RT6, an electric robotaxi that carries up to three passengers, has more than 30 sensors and processes driving data onboard in real time. Baidu said Apollo Go operates in 28 cities and has logged more than 350 million autonomous kilometers, including over 240 million without a human driver. Uber, which works with more than 30 autonomous vehicle partners, and Baidu plan to eventually deploy thousands of Apollo Go vehicles across Uber's global network. The partnership gives Baidu access to a major ride-hailing marketplace while supporting Uber's strategy of aggregating autonomous mobility services rather than developing the driving technology itself. Uber shares traded flat at around $78 in early Thursday trading, underscoring continued investor scrutiny of its autonomous-vehicle strategy.
