The National Assembly passed the so-called Working National Assembly Act on the 20th, reducing the maximum review period for fast-track bills to 90 days from 330. The revision shortens standing committee review to 60 days from 180 and Legislation and Judiciary Committee review to 30 days from 90. It also moves a bill to a floor vote at the first plenary session held after referral, rather than within 60 days after referral. The measure passed 153-81, with lawmakers from the opposition People Power Party voting against it. President Lee Jae-myung welcomed the passage on X, saying legislation would now move more quickly and thanking Democratic Party lawmakers while citing citizens awaiting housing and administrative reforms, including measures addressing the aftermath of the insurrection. The bill had previously been blocked by a People Power Party filibuster on the final day of the July extraordinary session, but was automatically carried over to the next plenary session under the National Assembly Act.
