The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index rose for a second session on Friday, advancing 1.8% to 2,841 points as all vessel segments gained. The capesize index increased 2.8% to 4,552 points, while the panamax index rose 0.7% to 2,108 points, ending a seven-day losing streak. The supramax index reached fresh July highs. Despite Friday's advance, the benchmark declined 0.8% for the week. The index tracks freight rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, with capesize vessels typically transporting 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, and panamax vessels carrying roughly 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain.
