A French couple was allegedly abducted from their home in Rion-des-Landes during the night of Aug. 10–11 after attackers demanded access to a large amount of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. The man was later found naked and injured in Solférino, about 20 kilometers away, while the woman was recovered from a vehicle in another department. Two men were arrested, and the Bordeaux Specialized Interregional Jurisdiction is handling the investigation with France’s National Anti-Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office, known as PNACO. The case comes as French authorities and Chainalysis report a sharp increase in violent crimes targeting crypto holders and their relatives, including home invasions, kidnappings and extortion attempts.
