The FTSE 100 moved higher as mining and energy stocks benefited from expectations that heightened Middle East risks could lift crude prices. In the morning report for the 21st, the index stood at 10,749.51 at 8:00 a.m. UK time, up 1.35 points, or 0.01%, from the previous close of 10,739.13 on the 20th. A subsequent closing report said the index extended its winning streak to three sessions, with Fresnillo and Endeavour Mining rising 3.7% and 2.6%, Rio Tinto gaining more than 1.5%, BP climbing 2.5% and Shell adding 0.7%. JD Sports plunged more than 14% after cutting its profit outlook amid difficult second-quarter trading conditions. Investors remained alert to possible crude-supply disruptions, renewed inflation and monetary-policy risks, while European markets were mixed.
