Citibank plans institutional Bitcoin custody through Custody+ later this year

Citi plans to offer institutional clients Bitcoin custody through its Custody+ platform later this year, although it has not announced a specific launch date or first customers. Bitcoin will be the first digital asset supported, joining stocks and bonds within a unified custody framework that also provides settlement, foreign exchange, cash and liquidity services. The project, developed over roughly two to three years and first disclosed by Citi in 2025, is intended to let the bank custody native digital assets itself rather than rely solely on external exchanges or digital-asset companies. Custody+ will include real-time settlement, automated hedging, cash management and liquidity tools. Citi Investor Services serves clients across more than 100 markets and operates its own custody network in 62 markets. Its Single Event Processing system handles more than 80% of events in real time and has reduced processing times for certain voluntary corporate actions in the U.S. by as much as 92%, with 96% of related events completed within two hours. Chris Cox, head of Citi Investor Services, said Citi invests more than $2 billion annually in its Services platform.
