World Liberty Financial has secured passivity commitments from Eric Trump, co-founder Zak Folkman and Emirati investor Hamad Khalfan Ali Matar Alshamsi to keep them out of management decisions at its proposed national trust bank after the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency granted preliminary approval. A final charter would let World Liberty Trust Company hold reserves backing its USD1 stablecoin, which has a market value of nearly $4 billion according to CoinGecko, and manage issuance and custody under federal supervision. The bid draws heightened scrutiny over Trump family financial interests, a planned 49% sale to a business linked to Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed, and Witkoff family organizers, while the company says no Trump family members serve as officers, directors or employees. The application also faces an active lawsuit from Tron founder Justin Sun, who committed $75 million and alleges frozen tokens and stripped governance rights, plus a World Liberty defamation countersuit, and criticism of a structure that pledged roughly $5 billion of WLFI tokens on Dolomite to borrow about $75 million in stablecoins. Spokesman David Wachsman said the firm is seeking lasting OCC oversight as Comptroller Jonathan Gould prioritizes new charters in a more receptive policy climate.
