MANTRA Chain's Layer-1 blockchain halted operations on August 21 after an attacker exploited a vulnerability in an upstream dependency. The network froze endpoints and transactions as a precaution, leaving transfers, staking, deposits and withdrawals unavailable. The team identified the upstream dependency as the root cause, traced fund movements, collaborated with exchange partners and assessed the full scope of the incident. User funds were unaffected by the network pause itself, though a full network state snapshot was taken before the restart process began. The asset impact of the attacker's activity remains unconfirmed. A patched release v8.4.0 addressing the vulnerability is undergoing testing on the DuKong testnet. MANTRA instructed validators to keep mainnet nodes offline until a coordinated restart announcement, targeting a return later on Aug. 21 subject to clean testing. Users were advised not to take action while the chain remained offline, as the restart will resolve the immediate freeze.
