Celltrion has launched the intravenous (IV) version of Steqeyma, an ustekinumab-based autoimmune disease treatment, in Japan about four months after receiving approval from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) in April. The company also added Crohn’s disease to Steqeyma’s existing indications for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Celltrion plans to use the Japanese sales channels and medical networks developed through Remsima and Yuflyma, which held market shares of 46.9% and 19.5%, respectively, as of May and ranked first in biosimilar prescriptions. Steqeyma is currently the only ustekinumab biosimilar in Japan available in both IV and subcutaneous forms, allowing IV induction therapy to be followed by subcutaneous maintenance treatment. Celltrion plans to promote the product at Japan Digestive Disease Week and the Japanese Society for Inflammatory Bowel Disease in the second half of the year, while also preparing to use its medical-staff and pharmacist network for Remsima SC, scheduled to launch next year.
