The decision lifts Tesla’s prior interim cap of 10 vehicles and opens full-county operations, with service expected after inspections, insurance and filings; initial runs will use Model Y crossovers before purpose-built Cybercabs. Cybercab chief engineer Eric Earley said Tesla is unlikely to hit 5,000 vehicles within a year and would be pleased with roughly 2,500. Waymo still leads nationally with thousands of robotaxis across six states, while Uber is pursuing a hybrid platform model with partners including Motional and Amazon’s Zoox.
